Weight Control:
Maintain A Healthy Weight Through Proper Nutrition and Exercise
Overview
Through good nutrition and regular exercise, we can begin to reverse the rising trend
toward overweight and obesity. Overweight and obesity are major factors in contributing
to the rise of the diabetes epidemic. Approximately 65% of Americans are overweight,
with a growing percentage becoming obese.
What is BMI?
BMI stands for Body Mass Index and is a term often used when discussing the obesity epidemic.
It is a number that shows body weight adjusted for height, and can be calculated with simple
math using inches and pounds, or meters and kilograms. For adults aged 20 years or older,
BMI falls into one of these categories: underweight, normal, overweight, or obese.
