| Managing Diabetes To Prevent Complications Living well with diabetes takes work, but diabetes can be managed. With proper monitoring and partnering with your health care team you can even prevent the many complications caused by diabetes. People with diabetes need to be ever vigilant about keeping blood sugar in a safe range by eating a healthy diet and regularly monitoring their blood sugar. They also need to keep blood pressure and lipids (cholesterol) within normal limits by getting the right nutrition, exercising and seeing their health care provider regularly for periodic lab tests and examinations. Knowing what to do to achieve good health is only half the battle. The other half is actually doing what’s good for us! While there is no vacation from diabetes, there is support and education that can help.
