Facts and Figures:

Over the past decade, diabetes has reached epidemic proportions in the United States and is fast becoming a global epidemic. The rise in obesity over the past two decades and increased lack of physical activity in our population has shown a strong correlation with the steep rise in type 2 diabetes.

To view this dramatic rise in obesity and diabetes, view these maps and slides from the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), approximately 20.8 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes. The ADA also estimates that about one-third (6.2 million) of those with diabetes remain undiagnosed. At higher risk are African Americans, Hispanic/Latino Americans, Native Americans, and some Asian Americans, Native Hawaiian, or other Pacific Islanders.
