For People with Diabetes:

Check Your Feet

Diabetes can lead to serious foot injuries and is the main cause of amputations.
Poorly controlled blood sugar can cause a decrease in the blood supply to
your legs and feet which decreases the bodies ability to heal properly and
raises the risk of infection. Poorly controlled blood sugar can also damage
nerves, leading to a loss of feeling or sensation in the limbs. When feet are
numb, it is hard to tell if there is pain or if they are injured. Foot problems
can happen quickly, so it is important to examine the feet everyday for sores,
blisters, redness, calluses, cuts or other problems. You can protect your feet
by controlling your blood sugar and checking them daily.
